Biographical web page evaluation:
1) This assignment consisted of creating a biographical web page of a person that we admire. I chose to dedicate my biographical web page to the American Olympic swimmer, Missy Franklin. Our goal was to create a web page that convinced others to admire our selected person. Before starting the actual construction of our biographical web pages, we were required to complete a web site creation project plan. The project plan is where we took notes on our admirable person and created a sketch and vision of what we wanted our web pages to look like. Our web page needed to have a minimum of four pages which included an introduction page, a biographical page, a page that highlighted his or her accomplishments, and a works cited page. We were also required to include pictures and encouraged to go beyond the requirements.
2) In order to complete this assignment there were several technology skills that we needed to have prior knowledge of. For example, this project required the use of Weebly tools. Weebly tools allowed us to add titles, paragraphs, columns, photos, and even videos to our web page. I also used my knowledge of html coding to complete this assignment. In order to add videos to my web page from YouTube, I had to encode the html code onto my webpage. Without my prior knowledge of html coding and Weebly tools, my website would have been lacking valuable information and sources.
3) Creating my web page inspired me to experiment with the different tools that Weebly provides. I was able to figure out how to embed a video from YouTube onto my website. I also learned of the importance of citing resources. The requirements of this project taught me how to appropriately read the terms of use from a website I was obtaining information from.
4) I feel that I did an excellent job in convincing my peers that the Olympic swimmer, Missy Franklin, is someone to admire. I was able to provide my peers with information about Missy Franklin including her accomplishments and story. I went beyond the basic requirements and embedded videos on my websites that served as another form of aid for convincing my peers. I felt that my web page was organized and easy to navigate through.
5) The next time I have a project that involves creating a web page similar to the biographical web page, I would do some things different. For example, I would try to incorporate more videos and images. I feel that multimedia elements on a web site keep the viewers engaged and interested. I would also strive to keep the information short and concise to avoid losing the viewers' interest.
